Persons trained in animal Physiology currently fit in a number of professional fields including teaching and research in basic biological and biomedical sciences, medical and veterinary sciences and animal production depending on their specialization. It is with this understanding that this course at graduate level in animal Physiology has been developed.
The course aims at giving the student an advanced understanding in animal Physiology. This will be achieved through lectures, practical and/or tutorials and research work.
The common regulations for the master degrees of Egerton University shall apply.
Candidates for the M.Sc. degree in Mammalian Physiology are required to have at least an Upper Second Class degree or equivalent in biological sciences, animal science, veterinary or human medicine, agriculture, range management and other relevant degrees from Egerton University or any other recognized institution.
Course Structure and Duration
During the period of study each candidates shall be expected to undertake course work and examination, do research and write a thesis. Candidate shall be required to successfully complete at least thirty (30) credit factors of course work, a thesis worth fifteen (15) credit factors to qualify for the award of masters of Science in Mammalian Physiology.
The programme shall extend for a minimum period of 18 months and maximum 36 months for full time students and a maximum of 48 months for part time students.

The acronym MAPH refers to Mammalian Physiology and is followed by three digits.
Digit 1 indicates the year the course is offered or the level of the course.
Digit 2 indicates nature or sub-discipline of the course within the discipline and interpreted according to the following levels:
Level 0 - General courses
Level 1 - general physiology courses
Level 2 - communication and control systems
Level 3 - Protection and survival systems
Level 4 - Working systems
Level 5 - Biochemical courses
Level 6 - Seminars, research
Digit 3 indicates the serial number of individual courses within a particular sub-discipline within the discipline.
All examinations for this programme shall be conducted in accordance with examination regulations as stipulated in the Egerton University Statute XXIX.
The grading of examinations for this programme shall be conducted in accordance with in Egerton University Statute XXIX.
To graduate a student shall be required to take and pass ALL scheduled courses within the stipulated period.
The Master of Science in Animal Physiology degree is classified in accordance with Egerton University Statute XXIX.
