Welcome to the Department of Human Nutrition
The Department of Human Nutrition was introduced in Egerton University so as to prepare professionals capable of providing services at various settings to help solve health and nutrition problems at the individual,family,institutional and community levels.
As a subject, human nutrition has continued to receive an important position in the world due to the prevailing food and nutrition problems affecting populations in both the developed and developing countries.
The Programme includes a study of the application of scientific principles in understanding the nutritional value of foods, utilization, functions and inter-relationships of nutrients in health and disease, chemical, physical and sensory properties of food; the quality and safety of foods and their social and psychological significance.
The department offers BSc. Foods Nutrition and Dietetics, MSc., and PhD Nutritional Sciences degrees.
